CANON: Kokoro Connect (light novels)
NAME: Himeko Inaba
AGE: 18
CANON: Kokoro Connect (light novels)
CANON HISTORY: Here
CANON PERSONALITY:
On the outside, Himeko Inaba tries to show herself off as the "cool beauty"; she's intelligent, after all — defined by the friends around her who say that she's the smartest person in the club. She'll even sometimes play along with the others, being the "straight man" of the group and even piping up jokes for the hell of it, too. Inaba can even be a bit blunt and crass in her word choice at times, especially when she's irritated.
However, that's all simply a façade that she puts on so that people believe that she has everything together, in spite of the fact that... well, she honestly doesn't.
The truth of the matter is that Inaba just simply doesn't trust other people easily, if at all — that doesn't simply boil down to just strangers; it also includes even her friends and her close family members, too. It's because of this mindset that she winds up pushing others aside, wearing a proverbial mask when necessary because she saw literally everyone as her 'enemy', as she aptly puts it. She simply does not want people to see through her weaknesses and figure out that in spite of how strong she presents herself, she's actually rather weak at heart and fragile.
In spite of this, Inaba absolutely refuses to show any signs of weakness, as she's rather aware that if she does show how weak she is, others simply won't need her anymore. But it's also because she doesn't want to show her weaknesses that she tries so hard to put up airs of confidence externally even though she's constantly anxious and fretting over things.
It's because of this that she's actually more selfless than she lets on, given that she's the one who advocates for Taichi to help Iori with her issues because she's very much aware that he's the only one who possibly could. Even though she does show selfless qualities, that doesn't mean that she's a little selfish, either, and she's very much aware of it: she's the one who pushes for Iori and Taichi to go out in spite of her own lingering feelings for Taichi, after all. Which goes to show that in the end, for those that she truly cares about as her friends, she'll always prioritize their feelings over her very own.
Due to her trust issues, Inaba has a tendency to analyze the situation repeatedly, to the point where she can comprehend it and attempt to find a solution for it, if she can. But it's also due to her analytical ability that she suffers from having her plans ruined to the point where she gets rather irritated and even angry.
However, even if she does put up a good mask to hide away her anxieties - Inaba herself even states that she's been building this up for months - it isn't as if she hides her emotions away entirely. While they might not be worn on her sleeve like some of the others in the club, it's not too difficult to tell what she's generally feeling, just as long as it's not a sign of her internal weakness.
Inaba also does not take bullshit, especially when it comes to her friends doing stupid things. This is shown time and again as she whacks people hard for saying stupid things - unless she's rolling with the punches - and even gets absolutely furious when people use her in ways that she doesn't appreciate. She's not the type that's simply going to twiddle her thumbs and do absolutely nothing.
It's because of this can-do attitude of hers that allows her to lead the Student Cultural Society-- she can easily bring people to attention and even stop things from getting out of hand when it comes down to fights.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: She's a normal teenager whose abilities lie in her hobby of analyzing people and situations around her and coming up with solutions to problems. She's also good with computers - she built one from scratch and even knows programming.

AU NAME: Raina Schwarzer
AU AGE: 18
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: N/A
AU NAME: Raina Schwarzer
AU AGE: 18
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: N/A
AU HISTORY:
( As a heads up: I have permission from the Rean Schwarzer player [
motiv8] for parts of this history! )
♡ Born as Raina Schwarzer, the youngest daughter of two - her older brother being Rean - to a relatively wealthy couple living in a small town outside of Rochester, New York.
♡ Spent most of her years attending a K-12 public school in the area; Raina had surprisingly high grades for her year as well, which made her valedictorian at her school and even gave her a lot of chances at scholarships.
♡ During her time at school, she didn't attend any extracurricular activities, instead pretty much generally going straight home (she was a part of the "go home" club, as she called it) after classes unless it was for group projects or someone else asked her to hang out; a lot of the time she said 'yes' to hang outs as to not concern her family into thinking that she was a loner that had no friends. More on that later.
♡ Due to the fact that she's rather observant, she noticed that her brother didn't have any strong relationships with others growing up and even noticed that her family was worried over him, too. Because of that, ever since she was young, she made the decision to make sure that her family never found out about her insecurities and this is how her "confident self" was created.
♡ In order to make sure that nobody found out that she had insecurities - as she didn't want her family to show concern over her like they did with her brother and therefore think that they were failures as parents - she used the confident persona that she crafted to make 'friends'; of course, she was never truly close to any of them, as she only simply saw them as 'casual acquaintances' more than anything. To her, she was just essentially using them for her own selfish purposes.
♡ Whatever time she spent at home (when it wasn't with her brother), however, was spent on her computer, where she wound up crafting an online persona ("Hime", the Japanese word of princess, because she's a nerd) on forums. She spend a good portion of her time when she wasn't hanging out with other people comfortable by herself, engrossed in the world of computers. She ends up becoming a technology nerd this way, learning how computers worked and programming, which fed into her hobby of analyzing things.
♡ Time spent with her brother was done participating in their shared hobby of watching anime and playing video games. It was these moments where she could almost feel like she could relax, just a little.
♡ She had a 'phase' in middle school where she wound up learning a lot of random trivia... she finds it rather cringe-worthy, however, so she tries not to talk about how much trivia she's amassed during those years, although she'll still drop random trivia facts now and again as a lingering effect of those years.
♡ She transferred to Recollé at the beginning of the school semester out of worry for her older brother who barely contacts home and to attend the college there in spite of her being able to practically attend any other if she so wanted to. Due to her interests with computers and analysis, she chooses both her major and minor: gunning for a degree in computer science and a minor in psychology.
AU PERSONALITY:
♡ The biggest major change in her personality compared to canon is that due to the fact that she was born in America instead of Japan, she doesn't have the natural gripes regarding how people refer to her (last name instead of her first name) and she doesn't actually hate her name as much, even if the etymology behind Raina is similar to her canon name, Himeko - Raina meaning 'queen' and Himeko meaning 'princess child'.
♡ She also does not have the development that her canon self had, putting her back to essentially "square one", where she has innate trust issues due to an unfounded anxiety. Like her early canon counterpart, she keeps it to herself well and makes sure nobody notices it, out of fear that if someone does find her weaknesses, they'll use that to their advantage and essentially backstab her.
♡ Raina does retain a lot of personality traits that Inaba has prior to her development, however: because of her issues, she has a hobby in analyzing people and situations and she's actually good at it; she also sees things as black and white - good and bad. She doesn't see herself as a good person and holds a lot of self loathing to the point where she considers herself as trash.
♡ Because she doesn't want people to see those perceived weaknesses, she outs people at arm's length; not allowing anyone to get too close to her, but letting them in so she can be "friends" (or as she says, casual acquaintances) with them.
♡ Also because she wants people to perceive her in a certain way, she can be a little bit manipulative so that they see her in a certain light.
♡ Unlike canon, where she gains true friends in high school, she doesn't have anything like that here; the only person she can consider even close to an actual friend is her brother, and even then, she still keeps an emotional distance due to fears. More on that below. Therefore, she's even more used to being "alone" than her canonical counterpart, having done it for much longer, all the way up to college.
♡ She's also very tomboyish and sometimes has crude language (like, she curses quite a bit) but seems to purposely try not to be as foul mouthed in front of her brother or her family.
♡ Loves her brother a lot, and is actually closer to him than how her canon counterpart was to her older brother. He's her only friend and she treasures that relationship a lot to the point that she gets scared that he might see how ugly her heart truly is one day and abandon her, leaving her truly alone. And being alone is her biggest fear.
♡ In general, she's much closer to her family and does not wish to worry them; it's part of the reason why she's buried her anxieties for so long and pretended to have actual friends in front of them so that they wouldn't have to be concerned for her.
♡ A huge computer nerd, same as canon.
♡ While her canon counterpart watches and reads animanga (volume three shows she has a manga shelf), Raina is even more of a nerd about it, even though she keeps it in the proverbial closet because she gets flustered about having such a weird hobby at her age.
♡ Since she was strictly a member of the "go home" club, she doesn't exactly act 'leaderly' out of necessity; however, she does wear the mask of confidence so that people can't poke at her weaknesses, and also simply because she believes if she acts that way, she'll accept the lie as the truth.
