"It doesn't make a difference whether you have a talent or not. I mean, that isn't the end goal. You have greater freedom than we do. All I have are games. But you can go anywhere, and become anything."

In a single word, how you would describe Nanami Chiaki is "gamer". After all, as the Super High School Level Gamer, she carries a lot of the stereotypical traits that you would see coming from one at first: a quiet, lonely, introvert who isn't good at conversation and buries herself in her games to the point where she doesn't pay attention to where she's going. She also isn't a very good conversationalist, either, as she tends not to say much or anything at all unless she wants to.

First impressions tend to reveal a lot of a character, and as for Nanami, hers comes off rather differently than her AI counterpart that shows up in Super Dangan Ronpa 2. While she retains the meek, shy and awkwardness of a true gamer when she runs right into Hinata Hajime, one of the really big differences shines through when video games are mentioned. She immediately lights up and gets up in Hinata's face about it, partially because she's never met someone else who's played video games at all ("But I've never met anyone besides me who could play that much before!") if ever. This just goes to show how much she loves games - she even says outright that sometimes, she gets so distracted in the game world that she even forgets to eat. Of course, not only does this happen, but there are times when she's so engrossed about talking about the subject that it almost seems like that the games' history are her own, even though she's fully aware that isn't the case.

However, because she is the Super High School Gamer, Nanami also realizes that she's limited in what she can and cannot do. Her talent revolves around games, so she initially has this belief that her life is already drawn out for her because of it. But because of her talent, she is able to mimic parts of games without a hitch - a good example being the Heaven-slaying Dragon Fist from Double Dragon II that she uses on Hanamura.

"Either way, my gaming talent won't earn me any friends."

As a gamer, Nanami has never had any friends; instead, she's been isolated and alone for as long as she can remember. But even though she enjoys games as is generally good at most genres with the exception of those that deal with interpersonal relationships due to her loneliness and isolation. And besides, who else would like playing games besides her? But Chisa, her homeroom teacher corrects her, telling her that she definitely can make friends with her games and even asks her if games are worthless - something that Nanami firmly thinks that they're not.

And it's because of Chisa's help in teaching her that you can definitely make friends with games that Nanami's morals and thoughts are almost completely influenced a lot, to the point where it rubs off on her.

"There's more to life than just talent. Your life won't be interesting just because you have a talent."

One of the beliefs that Chisa imparts onto her is the idea that there is more to life than just talent - a thought that is contradictory to Nanami's initial ideals where she thought that she couldn't do anything else because gaming was all that she was or ever could be; she felt trapped within her own talent. However, it changes with her teacher's influence, and it shows. When Hinata asks her if she would still enjoy games even if she didn't have her talent, she outright says that it would probably be interesting in its own way because she loves them.

Another thing to note is that while Nanami is more outgoing than her AI counterpart, there are times when she isn't sure of her own feelings, especially when it comes to things outside of gaming ("I have fun playing with you... I think.") especially because Nanami doesn't know much about things outside of that and the knowledge that Chisa has given her. In a way, this makes her like a child latching onto a parent's ideals.

"I mean... I... Everyone... I love you all... I don't wanna die...! I wanted to play once again with Hinata-kun... We could've played games again..."

One thing about Nanami that is really important to know is that she has a caring heart. She loves her classmates, her teacher, and her friends (in a platonic way), but while it may seem on the surface that she's selfless, she really isn't - at least, not entirely. All she wants is to play games with everyone; it's her one wish, and it doesn't necessarily take into consideration the other person's wants and needs. So while as class representative, she manages to keep the class together like glue, it's rather hollow; she never really got to know them that well. So while she does care about them, it's not for completely selfless reasons.

When it comes down to it, Nanami tends to have rather black and white morales the color her judgment. She sees murder as something that's bad; something that's shown when she tries to stop Komaeda from shooting Enoshima and the sheer determination and disgust she has for Enoshima when she tries to kill her with the execution and thus taint her friends with despair. While she used to be rather meek and not speak much - something that Tsumiki mentions - the Nanami of the here and now shows a bright determination that shows how much she would push to not only protect her friends, but make sure that she survives with them. Of course, that isn't to say that she isn't realistic about things in the end; she knows exactly when to give up when the going gets tough, but that doesn't mean that she isn't going to fight hard for it.

All in all, Nanami presents herself as the perfect gamer who knows where her priorities lie in both gaming and friends. While she may have a kind heart that won't accept bad things happening to those she's close to, it doesn't mean that she's entirely selfless; although that might primarily be because of how secluded she was before entering Hope's Peak Academy and having Chisa's ideals imparted onto her. She's a good girl, but she's still learning about the world around her.

ABILITIES: Chiaki Nanami's only talent is the fact that she is able to clear any game - with the exception of dating simulations - without any problems. She can also utilize any of her gaming experience in real life, which means that she has skills in mapping things out and has even used fighting techniques from games in real life to actually knock out one of her classmates. She's also rather observant and a quick thinker at times -- she can easily notice patterns in games and things like that and could immediately tell that Hinata and Kamukura were the same person, regardless of the difference in their appearance and how they spoke. She's also strong enough to carry Komaeda, but you can't really call that an ability, can you?

INVENTORY: Just the clothes on her back.

MEMORY ALTERATION: Due to the fact that after her execution she was unconscious / dead, instead of a memory alteration, she'll just have a blank space for however long it takes for URSULA to resurrect her.
SAMPLE: Here at the TDM. But if that isn't enough, here's an alternate sample:

To Nanami Chiaki, the number of people that she cared about and appreciated were those whom she count on one hand. Yukizome-sensei, her fellow classmates, and Hinata Hajime. Especially Hinata-kun, considering that he was the first person that she'd met that could play video games at a level that was close to her. He may not be a Super High School Level Gamer himself, but that didn't matter to her in the slightest bit.

Talent isn't the goal. And besides, he was freer than her in the sense that he could do whatever he wanted, become anyone and anything.

She only had games, in the end. Not that she thought it was bad, but rather, it was something that kept her caged in.

So when she grabbed him by the hand suddenly and without warning, leading him to the local arcade, she couldn't help but smile just a little bit. She had friends whom she could play games with. And playing with everyone was fun. Who knew that co-op would be so fun? It's been especially fun with Hinata-kun... she thinks.

Eventually the duo manages to make it to their final destination - for now, anyway - and goes right on ahead and makes a beeline towards the new fighting game cabinet that she had told him about.

"Come on, Hinata-kun... I told you we were going to play this game together."

Even if he's bad at it. Her eyes are lighting up and she's so ecstatic that it's going to be really damn hard to say 'no' to her. But then again, why would you?

"Do you know how to play yet? If you don't, I can teach you. I'm really good at this game, and I've heard that it's improved a lot from its predecessors." She seems rather determined on this one point -- but that's because she doesn't want to lose her Player Two, one who means so much to her.
