shion sonozaki ☆ open mingle post

This is an open roleplay and mingle post for Shion Sonozaki from the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel series.

Basically, here's the deal: Shion over here comes is several different flavors - canon (choose your canon point poison or let me choose), Recolle (as Mio Sonozaki, both NPC with no Higurashi memories and PC versions available) and TNDG versions. Just specify in the header, or you can just ask for any alternate time point than those three or mix and match-- it's totally fine by me. I'm game for any AUs or pre-assumed interactions, combining canons or whatever; just ask.

Anyway, just throw your character into the fray and let's get started! If you're especially stuck, feel free to choose a scenario from the ones below but don't feel like you're limited to those.

prompt suggestions, just for you!

[Things were shaping up to be a rather bittersweet Thanksgiving.

It wasn't immediately obvious at first, with Leon staying largely the same after his death, but there were... little things Xiaolang had started to notice. How willingly he was starting to accept the ghosts into their home, his blase reaction to all of the odd decorations around the city... not to mention hardly acknowledging the vision they all had. With what had happened in February, with the staff they destroyed, he figured Leon would be at least a little troubled.

Leon had lost the app. He had considered himself lucky, to have a family and a household that was entirely aware what was going on, but... in the end, he was safe. His cousin was free of Retrospec's influence, and while he couldn't be as honest with him as he used to, it was better this way. Still, with the numbers of their old group dwindling, he had to talk to somebody about what just happened, and the one option coming to mind was exactly his favorite. After October, his judgement of Mio and her actions controlled by the virus were starting to wane, but there was still that awkward breech between them. With one of their most important people being unaware of what was going on now, maybe it was time to bury the hatchet, somehow.

He's busy finishing up the last touches on dinner when there's a knock on the door, and he quickly turns off the heat to go get it. It was barely evening, so guests weren't unheard of, but he hadn't heard about anything from Li-Na or Leon about it...]

[Think of the devil and she shall come.

His face pales the moment he catches sight of her on the other side of the door, his heart doing it's familiar painful twist whenever she was involved. It's true he had her on his mind, to talk to her about everything that had been going on, but to see her now, this soon...

It's like a rock gets dropped through his stomach, though, sending it to his knees, as the most important details shine through. Her hair. Her eyes. There was no way she could have dyed it-- if she could, her and Li-Na and everyone else he knew with oddly colored hair would have done so already. With Leon, it was a subtle change, an emotional change, that clued him in to his drop from the app.

With Mio, it was immediate.

There's a subtle parade of emotions crossing his face as he stares at her-- shock, then pain, a hefty dose of guilt, and finally, a subdued sense of resignation as he pulls his eyes away. Had this been a year ago, he may have responded a bit more tartly, more like a brat, but more or less like the little brother figure she expected.

Now, though... he's quiet as he steps aside, forcing himself to smile slightly for her benefit. Her behavior was nostalgic, something he hadn't realized he missed, but... for whatever reason, it hurt more than he thought it would.]

... He just stepped out. He'll be really happy to see you here when he gets back, though.

[There's a small noise of acknowledge at her thanks as he quietly shuts the door behind her, keeping his eyes low and away. There wasn't really anyone else around to entertain her, and it would have been rude to leave her alone when she was a guest in their house, but... he wasn't entirely sure what to say. Nothing about Retrospec, or anything related to it, that much was for sure. And apologizing for something she might not even remember clearly would just make things awkward too.

He lifts his head as she mentions the cake, however, and gives a quick shake of his head. Following her into the living room, he carefully relieves the box from the couch, steadying it in his hands.]

I'll put it in the fridge for now. I'm not sure when Leon's getting back, so we don't want it to melt or anything.

[Her question, however, has him tensing uncomfortably, fingers flexing a little against the box. Of course Mio would notice something was off. Even if she wasn't aware of Retrospec's odd changes now, it didn't mean she couldn't still read him like a book. It was the curse of being an honest boy who had too many secrets to hold, and even if he wanted to tell her the truth... he knew he couldn't. Whatever technology or magic Retrospec had used, it ensured no one could never know of it.

After a pause that was much too long to be natural, he nods, pressing another brittle smile across his face. That alone was kind of telling-- he never really smiled for Mio, at least not during any of this-- but he wasn't sure what else to do to hide the turmoil within.]

I'm fine. I've just been busy with a lot of things recently, that's all. [Which isn't a lie, really!! It was just things he couldn't... talk to her about...] U-Um-- would you like some tea? Or dinner? I just finished cooking, so it should still be warm...

[Because food is the ultimate distraction, after all! and also it goes against Li family tradition not to serve people tea, ok]

[There's something familiar about those words, a strange case of deja vu he couldn't put his finger on, and it's enough to pause him briefly in his actions. Like a flickering flame, his false smile falters, the guilt growing quickly in his eyes. He could always lie further, say he wasn't pretending, but... it wasn't going to do any good. Mio was already perceptive enough to catch onto that, and frankly, he had enough secrets he had to keep from her. Keeping up this charade was only going to hurt the both of them.]

... sorry.

[It's all he can think of to say at that moment, all he can really do without revealing more than he wanted to. He's silent as he goes through the motions of making the tea, already having some of the tea leaves at the ready to seep in the pot. Keeping himself busy was a good distraction, but there was only so much he could do before he was just giving himself extra work. Quietly, he returns to the living room, the smile gone and his expression pensive. Setting the cup in front of Mio, he fills it up, ignoring the heat of the tea pot beneath his fingertips. After pouring a cup for himself, he settles in a chair across from her, his head down and his face still troubled. For someone who was intent on keeping things normal, he sure as fuck was acting suspicious. But maybe that was just a Syaoran Thing]
