Character History:

In order to understand Nanami's history, we're going to have to dig a little bit into the history of another girl. . . one that prompted the creation of Chiaki Nanami.

Now, let's skip to the end of that girl's story. You see, the beginning's not really that important, and even Nanami doesn't know anything about it. But it's important to know when it comes to understanding how she came to be. One day, there was a girl. This girl was a Hope's Peak Academy student and the class representative of 77-B. When one of her classmates went missing and she decided to go search for her, she found herself in some sort of strange underground bunker, where she met the person who she would come to hate the most. Of course, meeting that person would lead her and her fellow classmates into a world full of despair. But her teacher, who had heard that the class rep was in big trouble went and saved her - along with the other classmate who she was with - and told them to escape. It was dangerous, after all. With said classmate in tow, the girl went to plead with her classmates to save their teacher. Of course, they couldn't keep their teacher waiting, nor could they stand there and do nothing. So, with their lives on the line, they decide to go ahead and save their teacher, whom they cared about so dearly.

But that was the trap. One of their classmates was already steeped into a despair so deep that she decided to betray the class representative. And their teacher? Well, she was also brainwashed in the same way and followed suit, pushing the girl into an elevator which would lead to an execution that would ultimately kill her, leading the 77th class to become Super High School Level Despair. After all, they got to see her death right on the monitors, up close and personal.

Now, I bet you're wondering by now: who is this girl and why is her death important to Nanami's creation? Well, you see, the name of the girl was none other than Chiaki Nanami. And if the human Chiaki Nanami had not died, the one that we see in Super Dangan Ronpa 2 would not have been born.

First and foremost, the most important thing to know is that while Chiaki Nanami is an avid gamer, she's also an artificial intelligence based off of the memories of others. Basically, she's a newborn - one that has all the knowledge of every single game (circa 2010) and the basics of what's out there -- as she explains herself in her freetime events ("There are so many things that I completely don’t understand. For example, although I know how babies are made, but I don’t know how to fall in love with someone.") but she has no knowledge of the outside world. And why is that?

In Kibou-hen, it's explained that on the day that the 77th class entered the Neo World Program, it was supposed to create an Observer based on everyone's memories and creating a gestalt personality from them. But there wasn't a need for that, in the end. After all, there was someone whom everyone missed. And thus, the AI Chiaki Nanami was born. Of course, they're not exactly the same. She's an artificial intelligence who's barely had a life to live. And her role as an Observer was to make sure that everyone in the 77th class was alright. Of course, by doing that, she could only blend in with everyone else, pretend that she was human, even though she was, in the end, a program.

Anyway, moving along. The program itself is modeled after the real Jabberwock Island that they were in. With a slight few differences. Once all the students were in the program, a rabbit - who was also an Observer, like Nanami - named Monomi, who is also, strangely enough, a magical girl esque rabbit announces that it's time for the class to go on a Heart Throbbing School Trip! And surprise, everyone finds themselves not in a classroom, but on an island, away from the Hope's Peak Academy that everyone wanted! They were even unaware that they had their memories wiped and were in a program.

So, yeah - that's A Thing.

Later, Nanami eventually... after like, a long period of silence and thought and being distracted by video gaming on the cabinet in the hotel area's first floor finally introduces herself to our dear protagonist Hajime Hinata. Don't forget that name, he's important. She claims herself as the "Super High School Level Gamer" - a title that was reserved for the now dead Nanami Chiaki when she was enrolled in high school. Of course, that isn't to say that she doesn't have the skills. She does. Probably partially because she's an AI, but who cares about that. Of course, nobody else actually knows that she's artificial intelligence, and it's not like she can tell anyone anyway, due to her programming. Nevertheless, she goes on to admit that she's not really very good at conversing - outright stating that she has to think first about every little word before she says anything at all. And then there are the times where she almost falls asleep. That's pretty much her niche, though.

She goes back to playing her game as always and doesn't appear again for several long lines of text dialogue until Usami decides to call everyone out to the beach for a party. She even gives swimsuits to everyone. Of course, Nanami, being who she is, opts to not go swimming. Because, you know, she's kind of narcoleptic and god forbid that she fall asleep while swimming lest she drown. And everything's fine and dandy and everyone goes off to play because everything is fine in Dangan Ronpa and nothing bad will ever happen. Except for the fact that's all a lie and suddenly the whole entire area goes gray within a blink of an eye and they get an announcement from a certain bear to head to Jabberwock Park as soon as possible. And so they do.

Just like Sonic, the class makes their way quickly to Jabberwock Park, where they find Monokuma - the self proclaimed headmaster of Hope's Peak - announcing that, well, we're changing the rules up a bit and that this isn't going to be a peaceful, happy, heart-pounding school trip anymore, nope, not at all. Instead, he opts to give a more despairing look to the situation by offering, to the surprise of everyone, a way off the island. That is, if someone kills another and gets away with it. Of course, Usami won't have any of this shit so she goes and tries to beat Monokuma. . . and fails miserably, having her Magical Stick break, her authority taken, and is turned into Monomi for nearly the rest of the game. And Monokuma adds more rules about the murder game and even has these crazy huge robotic Monobeasts block off the way to the rest of the other islands, too. And this in of itself just causes unease in everyone so Nanami suggests that they disperse for the rest of the night, which they do.

Soon after, Togami Byakuya - more on him later - who is the Super High School Level Heir decides to make himself leader in order to unite everyone together and not cause a killing to happen. Of course, this leads to arguments and people just not agreeing with it, but in the end it's done. Monokuma then calls everyone out again late at night for their first motive: revealing that everyone's lost their memories, and with a bonus fact that someone in their group is a traitor. Of course, that "traitor" in a sense is none other than Nanami Chiaki herself. But she can't exactly say that, because she's bound by her programming that the Future Foundation gave her.

Of course, Togami proclaims that nobody's going to die as he's the leader and then goes right ahead and forces everyone to Jabberwock Park. Because there's something important there... probably. So everyone goes there and what they see is a huge object in place of the Monobeasts that used to be there. It's a big Monokuma-esque timer that's counting down, but to what? That is a mystery.

Skip ahead a day into the night, where Monokuma makes a huge announcement: go to Jabberwock Park. Of course, it's pretty much everyone who has to go. Or else, essentially. Which is when Monokuma has this slapstick comedy routine with Monomi (where you can clap your hands because it's... funny...) and then he reveals that Usami erased everyone's memories. And that there's a traitor. Who obviously can't reveal herself. Which causes unease and tension within the group. But of course, Togami's to the rescue, who says that, as the leader, he won't cause anyone to die. And asserts that the idea of the traitor is just a delusion. Of course, Nanami knows full well the answer to "who is the traitor". She feels a bit guilty about it, but there's nothing to worry about if a killing is going to be prevented.
Abilities/Special Powers: Chiaki herself is simply an artificial intelligence. Of course, this doesn't really mean anything, as her only actual skill is being able to perfect almost any type of game - with the exception of dating sims.
Third-Person Sample: i'll fuck this up later
First-Person Sample:

Hmm...

[ Chiaki hums to herself, deep in thought as she taps her chin. Of course, it's already recording and she realizes that, but she's finding herself rather distracted and it's not by video games. ]

I've never really communicated on a device before, so this is all new to me. Am I supposed to introduce myself? [ There's a slight pause, deep in thought, before she finally speaks up in a rather monotonous voice. ] My name is Nanami Chiaki. I'm the Super High School Level Gamer. My hobby is playing video games. I'm pretty good at all genres.

I think... I did that right. I've only had to introduce myself in person before, so I wasn't sure if the proper etiquette for introductions were different. Like if you're supposed to go by a nickname or maybe a code name. Or if you have to speak in some sort of code and have the other people decode it. Things like that.

...This place is called Wonderland, right? I've played some video games that had Wonderland before, but this is way different. Are there games here, I wonder... if you know, I'd really appreciate if someone told me. Oh. And if there's two player co-op, too. I'd like that a lot.
