That makes two of them that are completely flustered by the situation, so rest in pieces, I suppose.]

W-Would it really? I mean -- I don't want to assume...

[The both of them know what happens when people do that, after all!]

[ He thinks he can feel his heart in the back of his throat right now. This wasn't the conversation he was expecting to have today, least of all while he's dressed up in a punishment outfit.

Seriously, Mion. This is way more awkward for him than it is for you.

And yet, his fiery determination flares up, and he squares himself to face her head-on, both of his hands clinging to his messenger bag's strap so tightly that his knuckles are turning white. With bright red cheeks and a serious expression, he boldly (and probably way too loudly) declares: ]

Mion! Let's go on a real date!

[Is it, though?

Although that causes her to immediately turn a bright red in surprise as he basically asks - no, insists that they go on a real date.]

Eh?

[That's... the only word she can muster, because she's too much in shock to even think of any other proper words.]

[ Those bright red cheeks just make him even more convinced that this is something they need to do. She's way too cute right now for him to just let this conversation end. ]

You heard me! Not a punishment game or studying together, b-but a real, full-fledged date!

[ At least he's not being as loud now. But he's being sincere, and much bolder than his racing heart gives him any right to be. ]

[She is... stilled in complete silence, just staring at him completely shellshocked. Maybe she should be pinching herself. Actually, she'll do that right now.

...

Nope, not a dream.

Honestly, the one thing that relieves her is the fact that nobody else is walking by to this.]

[ Look, it may not be a very wordy answer, but it's a good one. He rocks on his heels, clutching his bag's strap a little tighter. His cheeks burn bright red, but beneath his flustered, embarrassed expression, there's a little hint of a happy smile there as well. ]

Right. Um, good. Now, I just... need to think of an idea for a date...

[ Yeah, he didn't exactly think this through or plan it out or anything. She wasn't even supposed to read that note until she was at home, and he was safely at his own house so they could just awkwardly dance around the subject some more.

But... he's glad things worked out like this. So, one of his hands will nervously reach out... is he offering to let her hold his hand? Well, yeah. And it says something that that's more embarrassing to him than this outfit. ]

[Mistakes were made.

Which is why she finds herself stuffs the letter into her bag so she can instead just tug at her long skirt a little awkwardly.]

It doesn't... have to be anything special, Kei-chan.

[Just saying that so he doesn't overthink it.

But she does notice that he's put his hand out for her to take and so she...

...tries to take it, even though she's absolutely awkward about it.]

[ They've held hands before. She held his at Watanagashi, when he was by the cotton drifting and wanted to tell her and the others about Rika-chan's predicament. But it had been a gentle, reassuring gesture, compared to one meant to express a romantic interest.

Awkward as it is, he allows his fingers to lace with hers,his thumb resting against the back of her hand. He glances in her direction, his cheeks absolutely stinging from the blush, and he wonders something aloud. ]

Should... should we tell the others? I feel like they're gonna just assume we were going on one anyway...
