[The blue fairy says as she starts floating around the room rather curiously. Van lets out a sigh at all of Mare's unbridled energy.]

So this is your room, Stelle? Are we gonna be staying here from now on? I'm not gonna complain!

Hey, hey... We can't just freeload in someone's room without their permission. It'd probably be easier on ya if I had a room all to myself. As much as I'd like to keep a close eye on you, I don't wanna come off as overbearing or anything like that.

I don't mind, but... I can ask the others to give you another room.

That'd be appreciated. For now, I don't mind crashing on the floor.

[There's a short pause... He feels that he's given her some information, but what has he learned about her? Learning more about his Master would be advantageous for him too.]

Say, what do you guys do around here? Grail War antics aside... You've got a daily grind you follow, don't ya?

Yeah. There's daily missions that I have to do, as well as other quests in various worlds.

Interesting... Doesn't sound too far-fetched from what I used to do. I was a Spriggan back in the day, y'know.

"Spriggan"?

[ She raises a brow, clearly not understanding the term. ]

Basically, I was a mercenary who did any gig for the right amount of cash. Monster slaying, private investigations... You name it. My door was open to good kinds of people and bad kinds of people.

I see.

[ Is she judging a little? Perhaps. ]

[He flashes her a rather innocent(?) smile and speaks in a very polite customer service-esque tone! After being in his line of work for so long, he was used to judgmental looks.]

C'mon now, Master~! ♪ I know I'm a shady guy, but I'm always loyal to the people that I've been contracted with. That means, I'll do whatever it takes to make sure that you win this war of ours.

[ Somehow, I can't seem to trust that...

That's what Stelle thinks, but instead she says: ]

Since you are participating, that means you have a wish, right?

... A wish, huh? Can't say that there's anything in particular that I want from that tin can. I mean, I'm sure it could sold for a good deal, but--

[But this is where Mare decides to cut in with a snicker. He might be able to fool this innocent girl with his shady Spriggan act, but it's not going to work on her.]

Oh, I know you better than anyone. You wouldn't have been summoned here if you didn't have a hidden desire to make upon the Holy Grail. Servants can't come to this world unless they have a reason to come.

[And Van shoots a sharp look at Mare. Whenever people see through his facade, he couldn't help and get flustered.]

You little-- Hey! Isn't what she wants is what's important here?!

I think both is important, especially since we're going to be working together, after all.

[There's a short pause from Van as he rubs the back of his neck... He looks down at the floor as the light in his eyes grows dull before he looks back up at her. Her sincere eagerness is what wins out for him most of all.]

I guess... If there was a wish that I could make on the Grail, it'd be to undo a "mistake in my past".

...was it really that bad?

[His voice takes another dip...]

Yeah... The more that you live, the more regrets that you'll have. It gets worst whenever you realize that you've been the mistake all along.

[But he suddenly clears his throat and forces a grin with an act of cheerfulness.]

But hey! I've got other wishes running around in my head... A cake that's never been tasted before, a fresh stylish new car, piles of money... Those would be more grounded wishes to have, don't ya think?

...

[ Stelle doesn't answer, instead just stares at him judgmentally. ]

... What? A guy's gotta indulge himself in his hobbies. There's nothing wrong with using a silly little Grail for that.

[And Mare is just laughing her butt off in her own little corner. On one hand, she wishes he'd be more honest... But on the other hand, this is too entertaining for her.]

Hahahaha! Oh wow! It's never a dull moment with you, isn't it?!

I think there's a lot more interesting things to wish for, don't you think?

And what would you wish for, Master? I ain't savvy on what girls your age would want nowadays.

I don't know yet. I just want to end this war with at little casualties as possible.

Interesting... Most people would have some kind of wish that they'd want to make on the Grail. Your heart's definitely in the right place.

[So this told him that their interests were aligned on that aspect. He was willing to work with anyone as long as they had a decent set of morals.]

But I can't say the same for our potential enemies. The other Masters and Servants will probably have some selfish wishes that they'd wanna make on that wish machine. Joining in this battle means that we're gonna have to be crushing some dreams.

Making a wish using something like that... they're just being used. I don't mind crushing those selfish wishes.
