Actually, I think he'll be a good match for you as your new Servant. A bit of a grumpy-pants, but he's a real softie deep down. Think you got what it takes?

[Mare floats back as she lifts a finger and a light shines from it.]

Here we go! Releasing Shard! Take the Servant!

[The light shines down and what comes out from it is an young man dressed in blue and black kneeling before Stelle. It's not out of humbleness... He's just temporarily blinded from all of the light! He doesn't seem very heroic looking, he looks about as normal as any other citizen around.]

--Ugh! What the hell!? It's so bright... Where am I?

[ ........... ]

The Astral Express.

[ Well, specifically, her room, but shh. ]

... Uh-huh. So I'm guessing you're the kid who summoned me?

[And that's when Mare floats around his face and waves very enthusiastically!]

Oh, I can answer this one! Technically, I did since I'm also a catalyst who's linked to you! But since she agreed to the contract and she fits the right conditions, then that would make her your official Master~! ★

[There's a pause from Van as he takes a second to sigh and process this.]

You know that I should have a word in this too, right? [A beat as he brushes Mare out of the way.] Anyway, do you have 'evidence' that you're a Master? The rules say that you should have it on one of your hands.

[ It's only then that she glances at her hands and realizes that she's going to have to take her gloves off. And when she does, she sees the marking on her left hand: bright red Command Seals in the shape of a star. ]

Is this it?

[He'll be reaching out to gently grasp her wrist to take a closer look at the seals. Those were definitely certified Command Seals... And another idle observation he makes how slender her fingers looked and unblemished her skin was. Almost reminded him of how a doll was modeled.]

Yup. Looks like those are the Command Seals to show your proof as a Master. [He'll let go of her wrist.] Basically, you can consider those my leash and collar. As a Master, you already have authority over me... But you can also use these seals to give me ironclad commands that I'll have to follow regardless if I love it or hate it. Think carefully how you use 'em, though.

[Speaking of which...]

I know Mare dragged you into this-- [And there's a loud "SHE AGREED!" that he ignores.] But did she tell you about the Servant classes yet?

. . . I'd rather not use them if I don't have to. She didn't tell me about the classes, though.

I'll take things from here then. There's seven classes in total: Saber, Assassin, Berserker, Rider, Caster, Archer and Lancer. All of them have their advantages and disadvantages over each other.

[Then Mare cuts in with a clearing of her throat. She sure loves to be the center of attention, doesn't she?]

Act-ua-lly-- I've heard rumors of other classes out there, but let's focus on these main seven! Anyway, keep the lecture train rolling!

... These battles from here on will be like a bloody game of rock-paper-scissors. I'll have my strengths to back you up, but I'm also gonna have my weaknesses too. The more we understand how our opponents move and fight, then the better off we'll be.

I see.

[ She answers rather nonchalantly. ]

So. Which one are you?

I'm just a run-of-the-mill Rider class.

[He gives her a slight self-decrepitating smile with a shrug of his shoulders. Mare gives him a glance... Almost like she wanted to say something about that, but she keeps her mouth shut for once.]

If you ask me, I think you would've been better off with a Saber. They're considered the Ace of Aces. Too bad that I ain't about the noble and straightlaced life.

They have to be noble and straightlaced...? I thought that the name had to do with the weapon.

A Servant's class can say a lot about their personality and history as well. I do have a sword, but it's more on the blunt side than sharp.

[That reminds him too...]

But hell... Even a Servant's weapon can be deceiving. Guess we gotta get you up to speed on what Noble Phantasms are, should we?

[ This is definitely a lot of information to take in. ]

Noble Phantasms are a Servant's trump card to pull out whenever they're in the middle of battle. That's why whenever you see someone's weapon, it might not be exactly what you think it is.

[He can't speak for all cases, but he definitely wants to teach her that not to take everything at face value.]

Or it might not even be a weapon at all. It could be anything like a giant ass animal or even a reality bending spell. Whenever it is, it's going to represent that person's identity. That's why they gotta be used sparingly... Not only that, Noble Phantasms consume a lot of mana.

...Mana? Like magic? How would I restore someone's mana if it's consumed? Do I have to get an ether?

Well, that's uh...

[Mare covers her mouth as she starts snickering as if there's an inside joke going on. Meanwhile, Van awkwardly rubs the back of his neck and looks away from her a bit.]

Hehe... "Ether" she says! Oh, she's so cute... I like this one!

--Hey! SHUT YOUR DAMN TRAP, MARE!!

[Ahem. Van takes a second to search for the right words... Was there a right way to say this? He wasn't sure... But he had to give this girl one thing, she was very curious.]

A-Anyway... The usual technique is an exchange of bodily fluids. Blood and saliva can give a small injection, but uh... Sex is the more effective way since it involves more physical intimacy between both parties and an easier way to produce higher levels of mana.

[The blue fairy says as she starts floating around the room rather curiously. Van lets out a sigh at all of Mare's unbridled energy.]

So this is your room, Stelle? Are we gonna be staying here from now on? I'm not gonna complain!

Hey, hey... We can't just freeload in someone's room without their permission. It'd probably be easier on ya if I had a room all to myself. As much as I'd like to keep a close eye on you, I don't wanna come off as overbearing or anything like that.

I don't mind, but... I can ask the others to give you another room.
