I was just thinking for a moment about whether or not someone like me even had a heart to cut out and put on display, that's all. [A self-deprecating thought, as many would say, but it's a curious one too. What was the likelihood that if she cut herself open right here that there would be nothing there but a void where her heart should be? Or would it be a dark and twisted lump of meat trying to pass itself off as an imitation of a human heart?]

It's not a real heart, but there is one. You wouldn't be a proper piece without one.

Furudo Erika, the one that no one, not even myself, believes actually has a heart, and yet, Bernkastel, the witch of miracles, is able to take such a piece, and give it a place on the game board. Isn't it natural that I should feel grateful to you for that?
