[Truth be told, she was honestly not sure if she should have accepted his invitation to join «ALfheim Online», but it was worth a shot. She had never played a VRMMO before, yet she knew that it would be very different from the other games she played back in middle school when she was a hikkikomori. Character creation was the thing that probably took the most out of her. There were just so many choices to choose. . .

But if she was going to use this account as her main (she could always make another, for trolling purposes) it would be for the best to keep things simple -- which is why she decided that her avatar should look similarly enough to her actual self. It would probably help him find her easier when she logged in.

The only exception to the rule was the race— choosing a Cait Sith, which meant that she had an additional cat ears and tail that matched the color of her raven colored hair. And the name she chose for her avatar was also rather simple; she took the first character of her last name and switch to katakana to type out the two characters for her intended handle: Ine.

Now all she had to do was wait for the idiot to show up in the first town that she was spawned in. Just because she was familiar with games didn't necessarily mean that she didn't need help, especially in something that caused her to be fully immersed in the game like this. Letting out a self-deprecating sigh, fingers ran through her hair as she crossed her arms over her chest, taking quick glances around as the cat ears that rested atop her head twitched in anticipation.]

Geez. He better not take too long, or else I'll kick his ass into the next world!

[As if that were possible, considering that in this world, she would be considered a level one newbie and would barely be able to defeat him. He had experience, after all...]

H~eh? Somehow I believe you.

[He just barely manages not to groan too loudly, though it still slips out without him being able to restrain it completely. There's a little sigh too before he starts to loosen his grip on her. When he realizes how close they are, he turns slightly red. It had been instinct that made him grab her and hold on tightly. The result was that the two of them were clutching each other in mid-air, pressed closely and floating lazily above the city.

Clearing his throat, he unlatches from her some more, though he keeps one hand around her. She's still new at it, so he doesn't know yet if he can let go completely until he asks.]

Ah, do you think you have the hang of it yet? [He looks away again, face still red as he awaits her response so he can let go fully.]

--Ah.

[That's the only word that she can manage as she lets go of him with a reddened face, as bright as a beet as the young raven haired girl's cat ears drooped somewhat. This was definitely an embarrassing moment for the two of them, but a part of her kind of liked it, even if she wouldn't readily admit that to him.]

Y-yeah, I think so. [There's a tinge of nervousness in her tone as she uses the assist controller to move herself away from from him, sighing in relief when she notes that there doesn't seem to be any huge problems.] You said you're flying more naturally, right? How does that work?

[She's curious but she's also trying so hard to push any strange thoughts aside from how close they were just then and there.]

[Since she's hovering on her own, he lets his hand drop away. At least she didn't plummet to the ground. In any case, he's able to push that little episode out of mind a bit more easily than her since she's asking him a question, and since he usually takes pride in explaining game mechanics, it's a good distraction from thinking about how close they were just a few moments before.]

Mhhh, it's sort of like using muscles that you don't even have. [That sounds kind of weird, so he shrugs a bit and points over his shoulder at his wings.]

The best way to describe it is... if you had wings in real life, you'd have muscles back there that moved them, right? So you sort of have to pretend you have those muscles and then... just use them. Hahhh, maybe it's more difficult than it sounds.

Ohhhhh. [She nods in response, folding her hands over her chest as she hovers backwards, humming to herself quietly.]

I guess that makes sense. Though I probably shouldn't try doing it in mid-flight. [But she gives him a dubious look at the "maybe it's more difficult than it sounds" part.] You make it look easy, Kirito.

I do? Ah, well, I've been doing it a lot longer.

[He just gives a shrug, though his face does redden slightly. It really was something difficult to explain. You had to experience it for yourself. That's what he thought of it, but it was a lot more natural than using the assist controller. On top of that, it was better in combat. He could have his second hand free in case he wanted to dual-wield.]

It looks like you're getting the hang of it at least. Do you want to practice some more or find some starter quests?

... Now you're making me curious.

[Maybe she should ask one of his other friends how he was like before he learned to fly properly. But she won't ask right now. It would probably just embarrass him further, and she doubted that he'd actually tell her. Inaba herself probably didn't need her second hand unless she ended up using her second hand, but she'll figure it out in time.]

I want to try a quest! I want to see how to kick ass in this game... I can practice flying later.

Wahhh, Ine-san is so eager...

[At least he doesn't smirk too widely. He just nods and glances around, lifting a hand to shield his eyes from the sun's glare. Then he points in a direction and glances back to Inaba.]

Most of the starter quests are in that area. You should see an icon over an NPC's head when we get close. Alright, let's go, Ine-san!

[Smiling, he drops down a few feet in the air and then speeds off in that direction, turning after a few moments so that he's flying backwards so he can watch behind him to make sure she's doing okay.]

Over there, then?

[Musing to herself than anything before hitching a breath, grinning wide as she tries her best to follow from behind -- though she made sure that she didn't accelerate too quickly and crash into him again. Keeping her gaze on him as he turns, swerving her body in that the same direction.

This is really fun, admittedly and her grin widens ever so slightly before realizing something.]

H-Hey, Kirito. ...How do I land? [She should have probably asked this earlier. Why didn't she ask this earlier.]

[She's doing an admirable job of flying, so he turns back around to face the front to lead them to the area with the most quests. It's only when she asks another question does he turn back around and blink at her before smiling some.]

Ahhhh, that's the tricky part. You'll probably crash the first few times...

[That wasn't really helpful, was it? But that's how he learned. Granted, he didn't really take the time to go over any flight guides or anything like that, and since he already had the hang of it now, there was no reason to go back and figure out what he had done wrong the first few times. So... he doesn't really have an answer.]

You could always just turn your wings off and hope that I catch you.

[Inaba did not like the idea of crashing. Especially since crashing probably meant that she would get injured and that did not sound like fun. Wincing visibly, she gulped, skidding to a stop as she stared deeply into his eyes.]

You will catch me, right?

Oi, oi... if you don't trust me enough to think so, then nothing I say will change it, mh?

[He gives a shrug and looks back into her eyes. Then he smiles some and nods before drifting downwards, keeping his face on hers. Then he touches down gingerly, wings disappearing behind him.]

Just get as close as possible...

[With that, he holds out his arms and tries to do his best to look reassuring.]

...Don't be stupid! I do trust you. So you better catch me or else I'll never forgive you!

[She gives an angry huff in frustration as she folds her arms over her chest, letting go of the assist controller as she begins to drop down, her wings dissipating as she does, falling rather quickly with a loud, high pitched yelp.]

[The black-haired swordsman bites his tongue, keeping his comments to himself. There is a smile on his face, however, so he's obviously amused by her remarks. He places his hands on his hips as she moves a little closer. It almost looks like he won't catch her at all since he even glances down at the ground and kicks at a pebble at the same time that she gets rid of her wings.

But at the last second, he lifts his arms again and grabs her out of the air as she drops down, catching her before she's close to hitting the ground. He grins a little at her, holding her a few inches off of the ground. Then he slowly lowers her so that she's standing on her own feet.]

You'll wake all the monsters up in this area if you yell like that.

Nnn...

[Her face turns red when she feels his hands around her, slightly embarrassed by the fact that she's in his arms. And the grin he wears on his lips makes her redden even more, the blush reaching her ears before she stands up on her own two feet, her arms still crossed as she jerks her head aside to hide the slightly pleased, yet frustrated expression.]

Sh-- Shut up, Kirito. I'll be quiet, so let's just go.

[He only holds her for a split-second more than is needed. Then he lets her go easily. Her frustrated expression almost makes him laugh a little, but he spares her that. To be honest, he was a little embarrassed for having to catch her again. It's not like he catches every girl that needs help. Still, he can't really mention that fact since it would probably make him look like a bigger goof. Instead, he resists the urge to scratch behind her Cait Sith ears as he lets go of her and nods.]

If you want.

[Then he motions to the closest NPC, an old man with a beard who wants some rats cleared out of his basement.]

Since Ine-san is done with flight training, we can move on to combat quests...

Geez. . .

[She lets out a heavy sigh as she tosses her hair in the air, the flustered look in her face cooling down. At least she's not as red as she was just a few moments ago, and speaking about quests is making her mind drift from any other strange thoughts that might have flickered in the recesses of her mind.]

Okay. So I just talk to the NPC to initiate the quest, right...? [Inaba takes a few steps forward deciding to talk with the NPC so she can accept the quest. It's just having rats cleared out; it shouldn't be hard. Probably.]

That's how it usually starts...

[Kirito gives a shrug, smiling some as he lets go of her. He doesn't think too much about the two of them being so close, how his arms had been around her tightly. That's not the important thing, right? She doesn't really care, so why should he?

In any case, he just glances towards the NPC and nods.]

It should be easy enough. I'll be right here.

[Although Inaba was thinking about it, she pushes those thoughts aside as she goes and accepts the quest, nodding to herself and to the NPC before glancing over her shoulder to ask him a quick question.]

Hey, Kirito. Do you think if I just whack the rats with the staff it'd be enough to kill them? Or would I have to use magic instead?

[Priorities. . .]

These first quests are more about learning your limitations...

[The swordsman gives her a shrug. He watches as she moves to the NPC and accepts the quest. It's been a very long time since he's accepted this same quest, but he knows that a new character can handle it no matter what their class is. Even if she uses a staff, she could finish it easily. It's set up so that any person, melee or ranged, can do the quest.]

Maybe a combination of both...?

[Her companion gives a shrug as he folds his arms across his chest. It's up to her to finish it on her own.]

Hmm, I guess I could try doing both. Maybe the karate I learned from Yui would help. . . Anyway, I'll be back.

[Probably. She shouldn't have too much trouble for a beginner's quest. At least she won't come back messy since it's a VRMMO.

[It's merely a starter quest, so he doesn't think too much about letting her go off on her own. Since he's so much higher than she is, he would definitely be at her side if it were a higher quest. It's just a noob quest, however, so he doesn't think too much about letting her do what she needs to do by herself.

Besides, someone might get the wrong idea if he was rushing to Inaba's aid all the time. It's not like he likes her or anything!

Too much...

He gives her a shrug.]

I'll be here.

[And then a nod. It shouldn't take too long to finish the quest, after all.]

[She nods at him, her back turned before she rushes off for the quest. It will definitely take her around five to ten minutes, but she will return, looking rather pleased with herself, but slightly out of breath when she does return, smiling at him as she throws a victory sign.]

Haa. . . haa. . . I'm back, Kirito.

[Laughing hollowly, she falls to her knees, exhausted.] Hahaha... that was really fun.

[Kirito remembers those quests. There is always a rat killing quest in almost every MMO, and ALO is no different. She shouldn't have too many problems with this quest. He smiles a little as she takes off. Then he heads over to lay down in the shade of a large tree, pillowing his hands behind his head and closing his eyes.

They pop back open when he hears her return. Still on his back, he looks at her from his spot for a bit before finally sitting up. She looks tired, but she also looks like she had fun.]

Hehhh? Ine-san, slayer of rats. I guess you're getting the hang of it now, huh? What do you want to do now?

I'm obviously the best slayer of rats there is. You can call me the Queen Rat Slayer! I wanted to kill those rats after what they tried to do...

[Grimacing a little at the brief reminder of what just happened just moments ago, she manages to hop right back up onto her feet, dusting her skirt off as she hums to herself, mulling things over in her head.]

I was thinking maybe a little break should be in order. We could stroll around the town and maybe do some other things. Taking in the scenery is also a good experience, don't you think?

Mh, it's not always about quests, you're right.

[Though, a battle-crazed idiot like Kirito really likes the fighting. That's what Klein had called him before... battle-crazed idiot. He really did enjoy combat way too much, and he almost looked insane at times when he was really going berserk.

Shifting, he hops up to his feet easily and dusts himself off before nodding and moving to her side.]

Maybe you should lead. If I lead, I'll show you only the things that interest me, so it's important for you to enjoy for yourself.
